Housekeeper arrested for stealing from her employer’s home

A 20-year-old housekeeper was arrested by Mumbai police last week for allegedly stealing cash and valuables worth Rs 3.23 lakh from her employer’s home in Colaba.

Police said the woman, Sanjana Gotmukhale, confessed to stealing. Gotmukhale, from Latur, reportedly told police that she wanted to marry her longtime boyfriend and live a luxurious life.

Gotmukhale was employed as a domestic help six years ago by the family. Darayas Chhibbar, who is 70, employed her because his wife has Parkinson’s disease and needed help. “Gotmukhale was tasked primarily with caring for the sick woman,” an officer said.

Police said that in June, Chhibbar noticed cash missing from his home. “He had brought some cash home, which he had to deposit in the bank. However, the next day when he took the money out of the cupboard, he noticed that some of it was missing,” the officer said, adding that when Chhibbar confronted his two aides, they denied the allegations.

Police said that in August Chhibbar went on a trip with his family. “When he returned, he saw that more cash and valuables were missing. He then filed a complaint with the Colaba police, where a case of break-in was recorded,” said the official. ‘officer.

Following this, the police brought the two domestic helpers to the police station for questioning and Gotmukhale confessed to the crime.

Gotmukhale was arrested and during the investigation the police managed to recover more money and valuables than Chhibbar had reported missing. “We recovered valuables worth Rs 7.5 lakh. We are trying to determine if she stole everything from Chhibbar’s house or if she also committed a similar crime elsewhere,” the officer said.
