Edmund Clarke: Florida man, 36, stabs employer’s son 40 times with scissors in attempted beheading

PUNTA GORDA, FL: A Florida man stabbed a man 40 times in the neck, head and torso with a pair of scissors inside a convenience store as he attempted to behead him. Edmund Clarke, 36, entered the store with the victim. Clarke worked for her father as a caretaker, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The incident happened on Monday, September 19, shortly before 7 p.m. Video footage of the horrific attack shows Clarke grabbing scissors from a cup near the register and lunging at the victim.

The victim was stabbed several times by Clarke before he began to grab more knives and continued his attack for several minutes before cops arrived on the scene. The victim, who has not been identified, was immediately taken to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Miraculously, he survived, although his current condition is unknown.

According to New York Post, the arrest report says Clarke worked for the victim’s father for about a decade. The pair met at some point before the incident and Clarke told the victim he was hungry, so they stopped at the trading post at Burst Store Marina. Deputies said Clarke and the victim entered the store together and ordered food before Clarke began attacking without warning.

An eyewitness claimed that Clarke started hallucinating while blaming someone before launching the assault. He was quickly arrested at the scene and faces an attempted murder charge. “This disgusting crime will not be tolerated in Lee County,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “I’m proud of the quick response from our deputies who helped save the victim’s life, and the hard work of my detectives to get Clarke off the streets,” he added.

Cops say the guard left her patient unattended in a hot car. The incident took place on August 10, 2021. Authorities noted that the woman’s temperature rose to over 110 degrees while she remained in the car, which was not air-conditioned. There have been similar incidents involving guards in the past. A five-year-old girl in Georgia, Savannah Adams was allegedly murdered by her caretaker. A 15-month-old girl from North Dakota died after she was allegedly tortured and sexually abused by her caretaker in November 2021. A four-year-old girl was reportedly ‘brutally killed’ after suffering ‘horrific’ abuse at the hands of his keeper in Philadelphia.
